I decided to drive to riverside myself since it was only 2:30pm.
I met with a very nice family, did the paperwork & headed to the Riverside Detention Center.
I made sure to call again and get the bail information twice. I even told the jailer "I'm here from Los Angeles County".. They understand a mistake means a situation. I can't exactly just drive to my office to remedy a problem.
Writing a bond is like writing a check. If you mess it up, it must be voided. The only difference is you CANNOT, cross something out & initial it.
Yours truly, sober as a judge, in no rush, under no pressure & under calm quiet conditions managed to screw up the date on my $50,000 bond. I was freaking out. I thought they would not accept it.
I waited for approval. I waited for two hours.
The jailer deputy comes out, doesn't even mention the date, and says " there's a problem"...
They didn't accept the penal code of 273.5 (a). They wanted it to look like 273.5 A. See the difference an "A" or an (a)....
I explained the situation to the jailer and he was very understanding, asked some questions about who issues the bonds & said he would ask the supervisor for approval. I waited. I waited another hour and a half.
They accepted it.
I was so relieved. I must be fair & say that they were very nice to me. I hated the sheriff that initially spoke with me on the phone, & cursed the very existence of all sheriffs & the whole department.
I laughed as I left Riverside & told the sheriff at the front desk, " I take back everything I ever said about you"..haha!
Again, I must be fair and mention for every bad egg there is a good one. I got home at 10 pm & made dinner.
